I love TV and Movies and I love the stars that make this industry. The following is a list of some of the famous actors that entertain us or have come before us and entertained past generations. They have left some sort of mark on us in terms of entertaining us.

This list is not exhaustive by any means there are hundreds more where this came from. This list is not a list of my top 20 actors its just a list of some of the stars that have made an impact in this industry. Enjoy my list of 20 famous actors in no particular order.

Will Smith

Is an American actor as well as producer and rapper.He has been nominated for numerous awards including two academy awards and four golden globe awards he has also won numerous Grammy awards. He has the amazing distinction of being the only actor ever to have eight films consecutively gross over 100 million. He is currently the biggest box office star.

Tom Cruise

Is a very popular actor and has a huge fan base all around the world, he still acts today and chooses his film roles very wisely which properly contributes to his success.

Audrey Hepburn

Was a British actress. She was a very popular star of the 50s and 60s. Her most notable film being Breakfast at Tiffany’s which has become a classic. She won and was nominated for numerous awards and accolades for her performances.In 1999 she was ranked number three in the greatest female star of all time list by the American Film Institute.

Marlon Brando

Was an amazing actor and sadly died in 2004. He was very well known for his parts. In the 1970s he had a part in the Godfather and went on to win an Academy Award for his performance.

Jack Nicholson

Is an inspiring actor, producer and director who is famous for his dark roles and for portraying slightly mental characters. He has won the Academy Awards twice and has also won Best Supporting Actor. He has been nominated for an award every decade since the 1960s.

Halle Berry

Is a popular American actress. She is the first women of African American descent to win a best actress Oscar. She has won several highly acclaimed awards over the years. She has been voted as the sexiest woman alive a number of times over the years.

Julia Roberts

Became a star in 1990 when she played the leading role in Pretty Woman and continued to make films of the same type which suited her and her personality. She won the award for Best Actress in 2001 for a powerful and thought provoking role in Erin Brockovich.

George Clooney

Began his career on TV and had many parts in American sitcom shows, he became famous for playing a doctor in the world famous ER from 1994 to 1999. While he was still doing this role he began accepting leading roles for huge films such as Batman & Robin.

Robert Downey Junior

Has been acting since he was five and has had a long and successful career, his personal life tended to interfere with his work though. He has been through several drug and alcohol programs and after a five year break, he made his film comeback and it was a success.

Johnny Depp

Is famous for his eccentric roles and began his career in the 1980s when he became a teen idol. His close friend Tim Burton has given him some amazing roles and he worked closely with him to ensure the characters were perfect in his films.

Denzel Washington

Has had many acclaimed roles and is seen as a very serious actor and has turned down roles due to his beliefs. Although he takes on serious roles he plays them very well and captures the audience from the moment he enters the screen.

Katharine Hepburn

Was a very popular American actress. She won four best actress nominations which is the current record in this category.She was also nominated for other awards such as the Emmy’s, golden globes and the tony awards. The American Film Institute ranked her number one in their 1999 greatest female star in American film history.

Charlie Chaplin

Was a British comedic actor very well known and a legend in the silent movie genre. The Tramp was his most well known role. In 1919 together with Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and D.W.Griffith he co-founded United Artists.

Leonardo Dicaprio

Has won many awards for his acting and the roles he agrees to take on suit him every time. He began his career on the TV and then went on to films and had success straight away although it was Titanic which made him world famous.

Queen Latifah

Is an American actress who is also a singer and rapper. She has a great strong confident woman presence onscreen. She started as a rapper and moved into film and television. She broke into the movie industry with her roles in Chicago which she was nominated for an Oscar and box office hit Bringing down the house. She has won numerous awards in both the film and music industries.

Sean Connery

Is best known for playing James Bond for several years and has gone on to have a very successful acting career. With his amazing good looks and charm he has you captivated from the moment he appears on the screen. At the age of 69 he was voted the Sexiest Man Alive.

Paul Newman

Is a legend and was an amazing actor as well as an accomplished sports car driver, he starred in many top class films and had a long and successful career. He died in 2009 from cancer at home surrounded by family and friends.

Robert De Niro

Is one of the old school actors and his films have been successful and classic, he is an established actor and continues to hold a screen presence even today. Although he seems to have taken a back seat from acting when he does take a role you are guaranteed a treat.

Eddie Murphy

Began his career as a comedian and was often seen on Saturday Night Live. He has since gone on to become one of the most famous actors. He is well known for his voice acting and has voiced many Disney movies.

Tom Hanks

Took some time to get a really big role and had stuck to mainstream films until Philadelphia; this film showed he could play a serious part and play it well. He has starred in many great movies and has been a voice in some Disney films.

There are some amazing actors, far more than have been listed, some of the younger stars today are becoming as well known as great legends from years gone by.
